Pirates coast to 4-0 win over Lasers

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team used a pair of two-goal halves to take care of business on Tuesday, blanking Irvine Valley, 4-0, at the OCC Soccer Complex.

The Pirates (11-4-2, 4-4-1 in the Orange Empire Conference) needed just over 10 minutes to score their first goal as Lily Carroll took feed from Michelle Campos and found the back of the net, putting OCC up for good.

It stayed that way until the 44th minute, when Leah Martinovich send in a corner kick that found its way through a swarm of IVC players and was deflected into the goal off the foot of Zoe Bacca to make it 2-0.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Coast made it 3-0 when Carroll picked up her second goal off the match, off a feed from Anahi Castillo.

And finally, in the 69th minute, Carroll fed teammate Sydney Powell, who found the scoresheet with a breakaway goal to cap off the scoring.

It was a relatively stress-free afternoon for OCC goalkeeper Jessica Gardner, who picked up the shutout win with two saves. IVC's best attempt to break the scoreless run came on a penalty shot in the second half, but Gardner was up to the task

With the win, Coast maintains its spot in fourth place in the always-tough OEC standings, just ahead of Golden West and Fullerton.

The Pirates will return to the OCC Soccer Complex on Friday against Santiago Canyon, beginning at 3 p.m.
