Four Pirates selected to All-OEC Team

COSTA MESA -- Four members of the Orange Coast College women's soccer team earned All-Orange Empire Conference honors for the 2022 season, as selected by the coaches at their postseason meeting.

The Pirates, who finished 12-9-2 overall and returned to the postseason for the 13th time over the past 17 seasons, were led by first-team, All-OEC selections Lily Carroll and Leah Martinovich, as well as second-team selections, Sydney Powell and Kate Hass.

Carroll, 5'9 sophomore forward from Edison High School, finished her 2022 season with 10 goals and a team-best 10 assists for 30 points. Her 30 points were sixth-best among all OEC field players, while her 10 goals were ranked seventh.

Martinovich, a 5'9 freshman defender from Aliso Niguel HS, not only anchored a Pirate defense that was tough to score upon all season long, but she also notched three goals and six assists for 12 points as well. One of her early goals was a free kick from just under 30 yards away that rang into the upper-right corner of the net to give Coast a 3-2 win over Rio Hondo.

Powell, a 5'9 freshman from Beaumont HS, was a scoring machine for the Pirates with 18 goals and four assists (40 points). Those 40 points not only led the Pirates, but also tied for the conference lead with Santiago Canyon's Nikki Marino. Powell's 18 goals was one better than Marino for the OEC lead in that category, too.

Hass, a 5'9 freshman defender out of Edison HS, joined Martinovich on the back line and helped hold OCC's opposition to just two goals per game all season and less than that in conference play.
