Pirates dominate Dons, edged by Rustlers in OEC meet

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's swim team earned a split decision during Friday's home meet with Golden West and Santa Ana.

Coast was edged by the Rustlers, 156-131, but earned a win with a 223-46 point advantage over the Dons.

Coast earned winning points in both diving events as Rae Adams won the 3-meter dive, while Brehz Dulac took the top spot in the 1-meter event.

Standout sophomore Mackenzie Bailie won a pair of events for the Pirates, touching the wall first in the 50-yard butterfly with a time of 25.89 seconds, as well as the 100 butterfly (58.33). Her 100 fly time was nearly 10 seconds head of the rest of the field and the lone time under one minute.

Several second-place performances were turned in by the Pirates, including Nicole Buck in the 200 individual medley (2:14.76) and the 100 backstroke (1:02.02), Vivianne Mai in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.97), Sophie Shiba in the 500 freestyle (5:40.24), Sydney Turcotte in the 50 breaststroke (33.74) and the Pirates' 200 free (1:41.03) and medley (1:53.57) relay teams.

OCC will return to action on Friday and Saturday at the Pasadena City College Invitational.
