Pirate women top the field at first OEC Meet

MISSION VIEJO -- There were plenty of standout performances for the Orange Coast College women's swim team at this year's first Orange Empire Conference meet, hosted by Saddleback College, on Friday.

Coast topped the six-team field and notched a meet-best 567 points, ahead of Riverside City College (489), Saddleback (427), Golden West (305), Fullerton (232) and Cypress (229).

Standout Cheyenne Morris picked up three individual wins for the Pirates, earning a first-place time of 2:17.51 in the 200-yard individual medley, a 1:03.6 in the 100 backstroke and a 2:33.88 in the 200 breaststroke.

Morris helped set the pace for a 1-2-3-4 finish in the 100 back, with Lauren Weins (1:03.68) finishing second, Kylie McCormick (1:04.66) placing third and Lilli Lindgard (1:05.43) taking fourth.

Lindgard picked up a pair of individual wins herself, placing first in the 50 free (24.85) and the 100 free (53.82). OCC teammate Kennedy Hood earned a runner-up time of 25.46 in the 50 free, just behind Lindgard.

McCormick -- who finished second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:36.28 -- helped lead a 1-2-3 finish for Coast in the 100 butterfly with a winning time of 1:01.63, ahead of Weins (1:02.71) and Michelle Cornejo (1:03.83).

In was a 1-2 finish for the Pirates in the 200 butterfly with Weins touching the wall first at 2:17.75, with Cornejo (2:22.13) placing second.

OCC was also a perfect 2-for-2 in the relay events, winning the 200 free relay (1:45.13) and the 200 medley relay (1:55.03).

Coast will return to action on Thursday at the Cuesta Invitational, hosted by Cuesta College.
