Pirate ladies keep on winning with 7-2 win over Irvine Valley

IRVINE -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team improved to 5-0 for the 2021 season with a 7-2 Orange Empire Conference win over Irvine Valley on Thursday, completing the week's two-match series with the Lasers.

Fresh off an 8-1 home win over IVC on Tuesday, Coast headed to Irvine, where the success continued. In singles play, it started at the top, with straight-set wins turned in by No. 1 Shayee Sherif (6-3, 6-2) and No. 2 Nicole Knickerbocker (6-1, 6-2). At No. 6, Faith Moreno won by default and at No. 4 singles, Madeleine Veltri outlasted IVC's Valeska Fernandez, 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, (10-4 tiebreaker) to give OCC a 4-2 lead.

In doubles play, Knickerbocker/Veltri prevailed, 8-5 at No. 1, while the OCC duo of Sherif and Jade Moreno rolled to an 8-4 win. OCC also won by default at No. 3. 

Coast will continue its OEC play next week with a two-match series against Fullerton, beginning on Tuesday at FC, beginning at 2 p.m. The same two teams will go at it again on Thursday at OCC, beginning at 2 p.m.
