Pirates make quick work of visiting Hornets

COSTA MESA -- It was smooth sailing for the Orange Coast College women's tennis team as the Pirates rolled to an 8-1 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Fullerton College on Thursday.

Coast took care of business with relative ease in singles play, winning five of six matches, all in straight sets. The 1-2 punch of Shayee Sherif and Nicole Knickerbocker each went 6-0, 6-0, while Jade Moreno (6-1, 6-0) and Faith Moreno (6-1, 6-0) dropped just one game each in their two matches. Maddy Veltri picked up OCC's fifth win by way of default to put OCC up, 5-1.

It was more of the same in doubles, where the Pirate teams of Knickerbocker/Veltri (8-2), Sherif/Moreno (8-0) and Faith Moreno and Jocelyn Timmer (default) swept past the Hornets.

OCC (7-0) will look for its eighth-straight win on Tuesday at Cypress College, beginning at 2 p.m.
