Pirates wrap up perfect season with win over Mounties

WALNUT -- It was a fitting conclusion for the Orange Coast College women's tennis duo of Shayee Sherif and Nicole Knickerbocker as the twosome helped the Pirates wrap up a perfect 2021 season with a 7-0 win over Mt. San Antonio on Tuesday.

The victory on Tuesday ends the Pirates' season with an unbeaten 12-0 record. Coast won 98 total matches this year, while the opposition could only muster EIGHT.

Leading that onslaught for Coast this year was the 1-2 punch of Sherif and Knickerbocker, who each won 6-0, 6-0 in their singles matches on Tuesday, then, each collected 8-2 wins in doubles.

With the option to return to Coast in 2022 still on the table, both players will have choices to make next season, but, if this WAS the end of their OCC careers, the numbers have been incredible for this Pirate duo.

For Sherif ...

  • 58-2 in singles play
  • 55-3 in doubles play
  • Member of the 2019 state championship team
  • 2019 Singles runner-up (lost to teammate Miri Inoue in the state finals)
  • 2019 Doubles state semifinalist
  • Helped Coast to 2019 & 2021 OEC championships

For Knickerbocker ...

  • 43-1 in singles play
  • 45-1 in doubles play
  • Member of the 2019 state championship team
  • 2019 Singles state semifinalist
  • 2021 Doubles state champion (with Miri Inoue)
  • Helped Coast to 2019 & 2021 OEC championships

Other singles scores from Tuesday include victories from OCC's Jocelynn Timmer (3-6, 7-6, 10-6), Madeleine Veltri (6-2, 6-1) and Faith Moreno (6-1, 6-1).

Ventri joined Knickerbocker in doubles to win, 8-2, while Moreno joined Sherif for their 8-2 win.
