Pirate women finish second at OEC Invitational

RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College women's track and field team finished second overall with 172 points at the Orange Empire Conference Invitational, hosted by Riverside City College, on Friday.

Leading the way for the Pirates was standout Charlotte Kraushaar, who earned a pair of first-place performances as well as a third-place finish. She won the high jump with a mark of 4-feet, 9 3/4 inches, then, sprinted her way to a first-place time of 16.21 in the 100 high hurdles. Kraushaar also earned a third-place mark of 103-1 in the javelin, behind teammate and event winner Haimanot Hansen, who topped the field with a throw of 107-5. Hansen added to day with a third-place jump of 3-10 in the high jump.

In the pole vault, Alison Young earned the top spot by clearing 10-11 3/4. OCC teammate Kayla Peterson earned second place with a jump of 7-11 1/4.

Standout runner Emily Olson earned a pair of top-three times, finishing second in the 1,500 with a time of 5:11.14 before taking third in the 800 with a time of 2:27.83.

Other top-three performances for the Pirates were turned in by Mikayla Ortillano in the triple jump (2nd, 28-8 1/2), Skyler Madrid in the 800 (2nd, 2:27.73), Beatriz Mondragon in the 400 hurdles (2nd, 1:12.57), Katherine Ngo in the 400 (3rd, 1:00.93) and Tiffany Ginger in the 100 (3rd, 12.76).

OCC's multi-event athletes will travel back to RCC for the OEC Heptathlon/Decathlon on Wednesday, beginning at 10 a.m. The rest of the Pirates will compete again on Friday at Long Beach State, beginning at 10 a.m.
