Pirate women finish second overall at Orange Coast Classic

COSTA MESA -- Against some of the top programs of the region, the Orange Coast College women's track and field teams placed second overall at the 2023 Orange Coast Classic on Friday afternoon.

Cerritos College finished with the highest team score of 225 points, followed by OCC (114), Saddleback (84), Palomar (55) and Fullerton (44).

The Pirates notched nine top-three performances in Friday's competition, including a first-place time in the 400-meter hurdles, where Mallory Jackson crossed the finish line with a winning time of 1:09.13.

Minami Cheever was a double runner-up for the Pirates, taking second overall in the shot put with a throw of 34-feet, 5 1/2-inches and in the discus throw with a mark of 110-feet.

Sprinter Yasmin Zand placed second in the 100 with a time of 12.64, while in the 3,000, OCC distance specialist Jaysi Reyes earned runner-up with a time of 12:19.76.

In the 4x100 relay, the foursome of Zand, Lynnie Covington, Emily Ilfeld and Katelyn Muniz finished second overall with a time of 50.32. Muniz and Jackson were joined by Annabelle Low and Madison Sedbrook in the 4x400, where the Pirates finished third with a time of 4:17.22.

Coast throw, Leilani Cooley placed third in the hammer throw with a mark of 122-10 and added a third-place mark in the javelin throw with a mark of 99-4.

The Pirates will return to action at the Cal State University, San Marcos Invitational on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m.
