Low, Muniz qualify for State with quality scores at Regional finals

MISSION VIEJO -- The Orange Coast College women's track and field duo of Annabelle Low and Katelyn Muniz have earned spots in the upcoming state meet after their strong performances at the 2023 Southern California Regional Multi-Event Championships, hosted by Saddleback College.

In the women's heptathlon, Low finished fourth overall with an impressive score of 3,528 points, just ahead of her teammate, Muniz, who placed fifth overall with 3,492 points. Cerritos College's Jazzmine Davis topped the field with 4,599 points, followed by Palomar's Jenniece Pingley (3,751) and Golden West's Emily Nguyen (3,622). 

Both Low and Muniz performed well in all seven events for the Pirates. Low topped the entire field in the 800-meter run with a first-place time of 2:30.02, while Muniz finished runner-up in both the 100 hurdlers (16.38), the 200 (26.93) and the 800 (2:33.95). 

Low placed fifth overall in the 100 hurdles (17.51), while Muniz placed fifth overall in the long jump (15-4).

The CCCAA State Meet will take place May 19-20 at Modesto Junior College.
