Pirates take third at last chance meet

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's track and field team earned a third-place team finish at Friday's "Last Chance Meet" as the Pirates prepare for conference, regional and state championship competition.

The host Pirates finished third overall with 88 points in a meet that showcased two- and four-year programs from around the state. Vanguard University earned a meet-best 109 points, while El Camino College finished second with 92 points.

Coast earned six top-three finishes in Friday's meet. The women's 400-meter relay squad of Mallory Jackson, Katelyn Muniz, Emily Ilfeld and Yasmin Zand took runner-up with a time of 50.03.

Razanne Dawood earned a second-place time in the 400-meter run, crossing the finish like with a time of 1:00.76.

In the hammer throw, Leilani Cooley placed second with a throw of 127-feet, 6-inches. Cooley also took third overall in the javelin with a throw of 95-10. 

OCC's Alexis Gilboy finished third in the 800 with a time of 2:46.03, while the 1,600 relay foursome of Dawood, Muniz, Annabelle Low and Mallory Jackson placed third with a time of 4:11.76.

The Pirates are now preparing for the final big races of the year, starting with the Orange Empire Conference Prelims and Finals. The Prelims will be held on Friday at Fullerton College, beginning at 1 p.m., with the Finals set for Friday, April 28 at Fullerton College, beginning at 12 p.m.
