Muniz, Low, shine for Pirates at CCCAA State Meet

RESULTS

MODESTO -- Orange Coast College's Katelyn Muniz and Annabelle Low had themselves a busy couple of days at the California Community College Athletic Association State Track and Field Championships this past weekend at Modesto College.

Both of these Pirate standouts earned trips to State Meet after qualifying in the heptathlon and both Coast performers earned top-10 totals for their efforts.

Muniz finished eighth in the state with 3,746 points, while Low was close behind in 10th place at 3,702 points. Cerritos College's Jazzmine Davis won the State Meet with 4,704 points, followed by Yuba's Amelia Adamson (4,269) and San Joaquin Delta's Ashlyn Jory (4,160).

Muniz earned a pair of third-place performances in the seven-event competition, taking the bronze in the 200-meter dash (26.34 seconds) and the 800 meters (2:33.58).

For Low, she topped everyone in the final performance of the event with a winning 800-meter time of 2:29.95, over three seconds ahead of runner-up Maya Lew of De Anza College (2:33). Low also finished fourth overall in the high jump (4-feet, 10 1/2-inches) and fifth in the javelin throw (90-5).
