Cutwright named State Player of the Week

COSTA MESA -- Orange Coast College freshman middle blocker Paige Cutwright was named the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (CCCWVCA) State Player of the Week out of Southern California for her strong play last week for the Pirates.

In a four-set win over Fullerton, Cutwright slammed down nine kills with no errors to go along with four solo blocks as the Pirates topped the Hornets, 25-15, 25-12, 24-26, 25-21. Two nights later against Santa Ana, it was more of the same as Cutwright notched 10 kills and just one error on 14 attempts (.643 hitting percentage) with five solo blocks and three aces in a 25-12, 25-14, 25-15 win over the Dons.

Cutwright currently leads the state with 40 solo blocks and is fourth in the state in hitting percentage at .440.

A steady weapon in the middle for the Pirates in 2021, Cutwright has six or more kills in 15 of 17 matches played and has four or more solo blocks on six different occasions.

OCC will take on Santiago Canyon tonight at SCC before hosting Irvine Valley on Friday. Both matches will begin at 6 p.m.
