Dominant start propels Pirates past Dons, 22-5

COSTA MESA -- A dominant first half of play by the Orange Coast College women's water polo team proved to be the difference as the Pirates toppled the Santa Ana College Dons, 22-5, on Wednesday in an Orange Empire Conference matchup played at OCC.
 
The Pirates jumped out to a 13-1 lead after the first half and never looked back, using a total team effort to defeat the Dons.
 
Alyssa Thomas, Valerie Silva, Brianna Salas and Audrey Hung each had four goals for the Pirates, while Carolynn Rohwer and Vivianne Mai each added two goals and Layla Jahanshai and Kaitlyn Finney each added one goal.
 
Assists were turned in by Silva (four), Rohwer (three), Mai (three), Jahanshai (three), Thomas (two), Hung (two), Finney (two) and Sierra Driessen (one).
 
In goal, Anna Venturini and Cailend Robbins each had three saves for the Pirates.
 
For the Dons, Jasmin Pannier paced the offense with four goals, while Nikole Facklam added a goal and three assists. Darcy Aragon totaled nine saves in goal.
 
The Pirates will return to the OCC Pool on Wednesday against OEC rival Riverside City College, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
