Pirates season ends at SoCal Regionals

RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College men's and women's water polo saw their successful seasons come to an end on Friday with a pair of losses at the 2011 Southern California Regional Playoffs, held at Riverside City College.

On the men's side, the No. 8 seeded Pirates opened the tourney with a 12-9 win over ninth-seeded Mt. San Antonio on Thursday before falling to top-seeded Golden West, 15-6 on Friday, ending their season with a record of 16-9.
 
In the win over Mt. SAC, Coast was led with three goals from Garrett Hill, while Cody Serrano, Jake Mohler and Sergio Cortes each added two. Single tallies were contributed by Ben Burnett, Chad Naughton and Dustin Serrano. In goal, Garrett Speed stopped 17 shots that came his way.
 
In the loss to the Rustlers, OCC fell behind 7-1 early in the first half and could never come all the way back. Goals for the Pirates included Serrano (2), Mindaugus Galinis (2), Cortes and Teddy Bandaruk.
 
On the women's side, the Pirates opened the tournament as the No. 6 seed and took on third-seeded Cerritos and the Falcons prevailed, 9-6. With the loss, the Pirates end their season at 20-9.
