SAN LUIS OBISPO -- The Orange Coast College women's water polo team kicked off its 2024 season with a pair of wins and a pair of losses this past weekend up at the Cuesta College Tournament.
The Pirates opened with a 13-5 loss to Riverside on Friday, but rebounded from the loss later that day and topped Diablo Valley, 14-5. On Saturday, Coast fell behind early to Santa Barbara and fought back hard, but fell, 12-9 in the morning match. That afternoon, the Pirates blanked Cerritos, 13-0, to earn the split of the four matches.
For the weekend, freshmen Hayden Clark and Emma Willis each had five goals, while Faye Garcia, Lyric Roddenberry and Ella Sweeney each added three. The goalie due of Emily Jones and Mia Gonzalez combined for 33 saves and 10 steals in the four contests.
The Pirates will return to the OCC Aquatics Pavilion on Wednesday and host rival Golden West, beginning at 3 p.m.
