OCC women finish second, men fourth at SoCal Meet

ONTARIO -- The Orange Coast College cross country teams hung tough with the top teams in all of Southern California and posted top-five team finishes at the 2011 Southern California Regional Meet on Friday morning.
 
The OCC women, led by the dynamic duo of Chelsea Clifford and Analicia Silva, finished second overall with a team score of 100 points, behind standout Glendale, who earned the SoCal title with a team score of 27 points.
 
Clifford overcame the wet conditions and finished the 5K course in fifth place with a time of 18:11.1. Silva was close behind her Pirate teammate and finished sixth with a time of 18:12.7. Other point-producing times were turned in by Grace Adams-Handy (23rd, 18:54), Carmille Garcia (30th, 19:10.5), and Sulema Sanchez (36th, 19:19).
 
On the men's side, the Pirates finished fifth overall with a team score of 161 points. San Bernardino Valley won the meet with a team score of 68.
 
All five runners who scored for OCC on the four-mile course, cracked the top-50, including Hugo Gutierrez (21st, 20:56), Zachary Ellis (29th, 21:05.9), Austin Little (30th, 21:06.9), Matt Bottomley (38th, 21:15.5) and Michael Taylor (44th, 21:20.6).
 
After a week off this week, both teams will head up to Fresno for the 2011 California Community College State Meet, held at Woodward Park on Saturday, Nov. 19, beginning at 9 a.m.
