Pirates claim 17th straight conference title!

ORANGE -- The Orange Coast College women's cross country team made it 17 straight Orange Empire Conference team titles on Friday, thanks to a dominating performance at the OEC Meet, held at Irvine Park.

Thanks to a 1-2-3-4-6 finish, the Pirates cruised to a dominating 16-point team score. Fullerton took a distant second with 92 points, while Santiago Canyon (105) placed third. Santa Ana (116), Golden West (117), Riverside (117) and Saddleback (142) round out the team scores.

Freshman Leanne Allen claimed the individual title, with a 5K time of 19 minutes, 29.98 seconds. Nipping at her heels were teammates Karen Silvas (19:38.38), Chelsea Clifford (19:44.77) and Nisreen Rizk (19:44.95).

Fullerton's Maegan Garritson broke up the Pirate streak with a fifth-place time of 19:49.61 before another Coast runner -- Carmille Garcia -- took the sixth spot at 20:06.97.

In fact, out of the first 17 runners to cross the finish line ... TEN were from Orange Coast, including Raenna Cortez (ninth, 20:35.72), Maria Matias (11th, 20:49.20), Rosa Gonzalez (12th, 20:54.14), Eunice Rodriguez (14th, 21:00.96) and Nicole Barbour (17th, 21:15.09).

Other OCC times on Friday included Allison Nagel (24th, 21:43.24), Guadalupe Gomez (29th, 21:57.09) and Geneva Alvarez (40th, 22:43.98).
