Pirates win another SoCal Regional title!

COSTA MESA -- It was "home sweet home" for the Orange Coast College women's cross country team as the Pirates hosted and dominated the competition at Saturday's Southern California Regional Meet, held at  Fairview Park.

With all five point-producing runners inside the top-15, the Pirates won the regional title with a team score of 53 points, nearly doubling the totals of runner-up Glendale (105 points). Moorpark finished third with 130, while Cerritos (133) and Mt. San Antonio (188) round out the top five.

OCC's top runner was Karen Silvas, who finished the 5K course in sixth place with a time of 18 minutes, 55.08 seconds.

Glendale's Grace Graham-Zamudio won the Southern California individual title with a time of 18:09.43, while Santa Barbara's Cecilia Instebo finished second with a time of 18:27.4. Third place went to Moorpark's Megan McNally (18:35.43), while Cuyamaca's Paige Hughes (18:50.14) and Mt. San Antonio's Miriam Jimenez (18:50.14) complete the top five individual performances.

After that top five, it was a sea of orange and blue as five of the next nine runners crossing the finish line came from OCC.

After Silvas, Carmille Garcia was close behind with an eighth-place time of 19:04.92. Chelsea Clifford (19:16.13) took 12th place, Raeanna Cortez (19:17.56) placed 13th and Leanne Allen (19:17.56) finished 14th to complete the scoring for the Pirates.
