Pirates handle business and win Coast Classic

COSTA MESA -- It was an impressive display for the host Orange Coast College men's track and field team as the Pirates nearly doubled the field with total points to win the 2022 Coast Classic on Friday afternoon.

Coast finished with a team score of 213.50, leaving plenty of room between themselves and runner-up Glendale (124 points). Santa Barbara (87.50 points) finished third, followed by Saddleback (79), Fullerton (61), Santa Monica (59), Southwestern (45) and Golden West (19).

The Pirates claimed NINE victories throughout the all-day meet with seven individual top spots as well as two relay wins.

In the 4x100 relay, it was a photo finish between the Pirates and the ... Pirates, as both OCC teams set the pace. The Coast foursome of Max Knudson, Jeffrey Hass, Jonah Slack and Paul Domingue (43.16) edged out the other Coast group of Tyler Young, Ryan Rivituso, Felix Fontanaeus and Nicholas Felix (43.17).

Domingue took home the top spot in two other events, winning the 100-meter dash (11.28 ... ahead of Hass' time of 11.41) as well as the triple jump (45-feet, 9 3/4-inches).

Another double-win for the Pirates came from Young, who cruised to victory in the 110 hurdles (15.79) and set a personal-best in the pole vault (13-4 1/2).

It was a 1-3-4 finish for OCC in the 400, with Rivituso taking the top time (48.99), followed by a third-place time from Felix (49.78) and a fourth-place time from Fontaeus (49.86).

In the 200, it was a battle all the way to the finish line as Hass edged out Santa Barbara's Aidan Mosley (22.89) and OCC's Rivituso (23.04) with a winning time of 22.83.

The 4x400 relay squad of Felix, Hass, Fontanaeus and Rivituso got things done for the Pirates with a winning time of 3:27.89.

OCC's Jonah Slack showed who the top javelin thrower was on Friday with a winning mark of 136-6, more than 3-feet better than runner-up Julio Aguayo's throw of 133-1 from Glendale College.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday at Saddlback College with a dual meet against the Bobcats, beginning at 10 a.m.
