Pirates roll over Rustlers, 94-50

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College women's basketball team continued its dominant play with a 94-50 blowout over host Golden West on Friday in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.

Annie Trinh and Karina Cabrera had the hot hands for the state's No. 3-ranked Pirates (25-1, 9-1 in the OEC). Trinh had a game-best 33 points on 12-of-19 shooting with five 3-pointers, while Cabrera added 22 points on 7-of-14 from the floor. Meghan McIntyre was the facilitator with nine assists to go along with 19 points and six rebounds in 26 minutes of work. Gabby Samiy and Savannah Seiler combined for 15 points and nine rebounds.

Coast's defense went to work early and forced 26 Rustler turnovers which led to a 34-12 advantage in the "points off of turnovers" category. Coast also broke down the Rustlers' defensive play, which led to 46 points in the paint, primarily off of uncontested layups.

OCC's lead grew to as many as 49 points and the Pirates never trailed in the contest.

With the win, OCC has all but wrapped up the Orange Empire Conference title, holding a two-game lead on second-place Cypress (7-3) with just two games left to go. The Pirates will wrap up the regular season at home against Santa Ana on Tuesday (5 p.m.) before hosting Riverside on Thursday (5 p.m.). Cypress plays at Golden West on Tuesday and at Fullerton on Thursday. One OCC win or one Cypress loss over the next two games will give Coast it's first conference championship since winning back-to-back OEC titles in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
