Pirates sweep the competition at Mt. SAC Tourney

WALNUT -- Much like the men's team, the Orange Coast College women's water polo team made it a clean sweep over the competition at the Mt. San Antonio College Tournament, winning four straight last weekend.

The streak started last Friday with a solid 13-5 win over Citrus in the tourney opener. Three different Pirates -- Aubry Hill, Katelyn Hansen and Lauren Babb -- each scored three goals, while Kellie Thorsness added two goals. OCC goalkeeper Lindsey Richardson notched six saves in the win.

Game 2 saw the Pirates take on Long Beach City College later in the day on Friday and earned a hard-fought 7-5 win over the Vikings. The match was tied at 5 early in the fourth quarter before Coast picked up a pair of goals by Vivianne Mai and Hansen to take the lead for good.

In the third game of the tournament, Coast faced Orange Empire Conference opponent Fullerton and once again, it was the Pirates on top, 6-4. In a defensive-minded struggle for both teams, Coast broke a 4-4 tie late in the third period with a goal by Jasmine Trabert and added an insurance goal in the fourth with a goal by Kiana Fortier, her third goal of the match.

In the finale, Coast took on Grossmont and used a four-goal third quarter to pull away from the Griffins, 9-6. Audrey Hung led the Pirates with five goals, including three in that all-important third quarter. Kaitlin Finney added two goals, while Babb and Hansen each added single tallies.

Coast will return to action this weekend at the Cuesta College Tournament.
