Pirates go 1-2 at Mt. San Jacinto tourney

SAN JACINTO -- The Orange Coast College women's basketball team sandwiched a win around a pair of losses at last weekend's Mt. San Jacinto College Women's Basketball Tournament.

In the opener on Friday, Coast dropped a 64-56 decision to Chaffey College, dropping the Pirates to the consolation semifinals. OCC led 42-37 after three quarters, before the Panthers closed things out by outscoring the Pirates, 27-14, in the fourth.

Chyann Pendergrass led Coast with 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Jenna Rodriguez added 18 points and 112 rebounds. Sami Little came off of the bench for 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals.

In the consolation semifinals against Antelope Valley, Coast held AVC to 26% shooting from the floor en route to a 48-45 win. Megan Lewis had 13 points and six rebounds, while Pendergrass and Little each tossed in 10 points, sending Coast to the consolation championship.

There, the Pirates fell, 60-51, to drop to 1-2 for the season. Rodriguez led the way with 15 points, while Pendergrass and Sarah Nunes each scored 11 points and Little added 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Coast will return home and host a trio of teams for the 2015 OCC Crossover. OCC will play Rio Hondo on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and L.A. Valley on Friday, also at 7:30 p.m.
