Bio
Showing amazing versatility as both a singles and doubles player, Becky Barmore helped establish Orange Coast College as a hot spot for women’s tennis among California community colleges, helping the Pirates to back-to-back state team championships in 1984 and 1985. As a freshman, Barmore went a perfect 28–0 in both singles and doubles, winning MVP, Barmore won the singles championship as well as the prestigious Ojai Tennis Tournament in 1984, as well as the same championship in doubles titles with playing partner Nancy Gayton — all as a freshman. She became the first women’s tennis player to win all three state titles in the same season.
Along with the 1983–84 school year, the women’s tennis program became the dominant team in California. After the 1985 state doubles title, Barmore was named OCC’s Co-Female Athlete of the Year for capturing both titles. Her amazing success continued into the city singles finals as well as the Ojai singles finals. In her second season, Barmore claimed all team titles in 1984 and 1985, sparked a run of five titles over a seven-year span (1984, 1985, 1987, 1989, 1990). After Coast, Barmore competed at UC Santa Barbara, where she was a standout player for the Gauchos until 1987.
