Bio
George’s longstanding career with Orange Coast began in 1963 when he joined Dick Tucker’s coaching staff. He remained on the Pirates’ coaching staff for 31 years and was in charge of the team’s offensive line from 1969-93. During Mattias’ tenure on the OCC coaching staff, the Pirates compiled a 173-131-5 record for a .569 winning percentage. Also in that span, Coast captured five conference championships and two national titles (1963 and 1975). George’s 1975 offensive crew set the school’s all-time record for points in a season with 436 (39.6 points per game average). In addition to his stellar football career, Mattias was also the OCC men’s tennis coach for 14 years, racking up a 193-75-1 record for a .720 winning percentage. The Pirates won seven conference championships under George and he was twice named the California Community College Men’s Tennis Coach of the Year. On March 18, 2006, George was inducted into the California Community College Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
