Pirates send two pairs to State Beach Volleyball Championships
TORRANCE -- Two pairs from the Orange Coast College beach volleyball team have earned a spot at the state championships after earning a top-20 finish at the Southern California Regional Pairs Championships, hosted by El Camino College.
The Pirate pair of Brisa Zapata-Reaves/Corinne Williams earned a No. 6 seed, while OCC teammates Paige Cutwright/Alexandra Selivanov placed 19th to round out the 20-pair field heading to the State Championships, which will take place on May 12-13 at West Valley College.
Zepata-Reaves/Williams picked up a pair of straight-set wins in their first two rounds to earn the No. 6 seed, topping a duo from Grossmont (21-10, 21-13) and a duo from College of the Desert (21-3, 21-10).
Cutwright/Selivanov lost their opening match and had to earn a top-20 spot through the consolation bracket. There, they picked up a win over SD Mesa (21-14, 24-22) and MiraCosta College (21-14, 21-11) to earn the No. 19 spot.
