Bio

With over 25 years of coaching experience at Orange Coast College, longtime indoor volleyball head coach Chuck Cutenese was the logical choice to take over the Pirates' sand volleyball program.

Under Cutenese's guidance, the Pirates have earned a pair of 3C2A State Championship appearances in 2022 and 2023. The 2025 Pirates went 19-2 and captured the Orange Empire Conference crown before falling in the Southern California Regionals.

It was a sport that began at OCC at the club level in 2012 and the response was strong right from Day 1. Within the first year, the number of California community college club sand volleyball teams doubled in size and when the CCCAA announced that the sport would become a sanctioned sport, Cutenese began his run as head coach of the Pirates.

In addition to his coaching duties with the sand volleyball program, Cutenese has been the longtime head indoor volleyball coach for Coast, winning three championships as a coach (2009, 2006, 2005). He was also the men's volleyball coach from 1993-2006 and won one state title with the Pirates as a coach (1994) and also captured a state crown for the Pirates as a player, back in 1987.
