Bio

Taking over the head coaching duties for the 2020 season is Nate Johnson.

Johnson, who was named Associate Head Coach by former longtime head coach, the late John Altobelli, for the 2020 season, has been with the Pirates' coaching staff since 2014.

After his opening season was stopped short due to the COVID pandemic, Johnson helped guide Coast to a 20-7-1 overall record, leading the Pirates to their third consecutive Orange Empire Conference championship, earning OEC Coach of the Year honors along the way.

Before coming to OCC, Johnson played his collegiate career at Pepperdine University, where he competed with the Waves from 2009-13. Over that span, he batted .247 with 15 home runs and 78 RBI and started in 135-of-156 games played.

Johnson earned All-West Coast Conference honorable mention in 2010 after batting .237 with 49 hits, 28 runs, nine home runs and 36 RBI, starting all 54 games at catcher for the Waves. He batted .325 over the first 12 games of his senior season before an injury ended his season.

Nate and his wife, Jonai, reside in Aliso Viejo.
