Several Pirates garner All-Southern League honors

COSTA MESA -- The Southern California Football Association (SCFA) announced this year's All-Southern League selections, with several Orange Coast College football players earning a spot on this elite list.

Following this year's 7-4 record and a berth in the 2015 Beach Bowl, 12 Pirate players earned first- and second-team spots on this year's squad. Leading the way were four first-team selections -- quarterback Mason Dossey, wide receiver Stefan Derrick, linebacker Mark Cushing and defensive back Derrick Worthy.

Dossey, who took over the starting reins on Week 2, threw for 2,457 yards and 21 touchdowns (only four interceptions) on 202-of-325 passing. He was one of only three Southern League QBs to throw for over 2,000 and his four interceptions were the fewest among Southern League starters. His 2,457 yards are third-best for one season in OCC history 202 completions and 325 pass attempts are both No. 2 on the Pirates' list for one season.

Derrick led all SCFA receivers with 16 touchdowns to go along with his 65 receptions and 1,161 receiving yards. All three of those stats are No. 2 all time for one season in OCC history behind Mark Munson (68 receptions, 2014) and Junior Tagaloa (1,190 yards, 17 touchdowns in 1987).

Cushing led the Southern League with 94 total tackles and his 59 solo stops were also tops in the league. He also finished with eight tackles for a loss, a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, two pass breakups and two interceptions.

Worthy notched 42 tackles (11 solo, but his big claim to fame was his four interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns, the first Pirate player to accomplish that feat in recent history.

In addition to this Pirate foursome, eight other players earned spots on the All-Southern League's Second Team selections.

On offense, sophomore offensive linemen Brett Landon and Will Martin earned spots on the squad. That duo helped lead the way for sophomore running back Kyle White, who rushed for a team-best 699 yards and six touchdowns.

Joining this trio on the second-team squad include five defensive standouts, including linemen Matt Andre (18 tackles), Josh Odigie (51 tackles, four sacks, 12 tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery) and Preston Hendry (53 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 15.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles), as well as linebacker Christian Webb (45 tackles, one fumble recovery, two pass break-ups) and safety Brandon Worthy (55 tackles, 35 solo, three fumble recoveries, team-best five interceptions).
