Ten Pirates earn all-league honors

Ten members of the Orange Coast College football team earned All-Southern League honors, including two Pirates who claimed first-team accolades, as voted on by the league's head coaches.

OCC freshman running back Derrick Hunt and sophomore offensive lineman Will Martin earned first-team honors on this year's All-Southern League List for the Pirates.

Hunt, a 5-foot-10, 220-pounder out of Flint Northwestern (MI) High School, rushed for a team-best 754 yards and three touchdowns on 120 carries and also caught 16 passes out of the backfield for 130 yards and two TDs. His 884 all-purpose yards was tops on the Pirates in 2016.

Martin, a 6'3, 290-pound lineman from Brethren Christian HS was the anchor on an offensive line that helped the Pirates generate 3,422 yards of offense and helped protect a passing game that produced 2,246 yards through the air.

Four other members of OCC's offensive unit earned second-team honors, including sophomore lineman Zack Hickman, wide receiver James Rutledge (36 receptions, 604 yards, four TDs), quarterback Kody Whitaker (158-287, 1,986 yards, 16 TDs) and utility standout A'Brae Booker-Curin (297 rushing yards, 187 receiving yards, 259 return yards, four TDs).
