Pirates post another strong showing at Tijeras Creek

MISSION VIEJO -- Under perfect conditions, the Orange Coast College men's golf team earned another strong result at Monday's Orange Empire Conference event, hosted by Saddleback College at Tijeras Creek.

Against some of the best golfers in the area, the Pirates carded a team score of 379, just two shots behind host Saddleback for the top spot of the afternoon. Mt. San Antonio earned the No. 2 spot ahead of the Pirates with the same 379, thanks to the sixth-golfer tiebreaker, putting Coast in the No. 3 spot.

Coast heads into next week's two-round, OEC Championships in second place with a record of 38-16, trailing only Mt. SAC (45-9) for the top spot. Saddleback is close behind the Pirates at 37-17, followed by Cypress at 32-22. The 36-hole championship will take place on Monday, June 7 at Candlewood Country Club, beginning at 8 a.m.

Leading the way for the Pirates on Monday was Cathan Peterson-Cheek, who shot the low round of the entire event, carding a 1-under-par, 71. Devin Keith was just one shot off of Peterson-Cheek's pace, firing an even-par 72, followed by Michael Lin (75), Sky Nam (79), Lucas Renner (82) and Andrew Hirsch (82).
