Pirate men wrap up season seventh at state swim championships

LOS ANGELES -- The Orange Coast College men's swim team posted solid times throughout the weekend and finished seventh overall at the 2017 California Community College Athletic Association State Swimming Championships, hosted be East Los Angeles College.

Coast notched five top-five finals times throughout the three-day event and finished with 191 points.

Leading the way for the Pirates was freshman standout Donny Hadden, who earned medal-winning performances on each day of the competition.

On Day 1, Hadden started with a solid third-place performance in the 50-yard freestyle and finished with a time of 20.82 seconds. From there, Hadden earned a silver medal on Day 2 in the 100 butterfly (50.41) and on Saturday, he took third in the 100 freestyle (45.53.).

OCC also earned three top-five times in three different relay events. On Thursday, Coast finished fifth in the 200 free relay (Dadden, Parker Evans, Gabriele Simonti, Lyke Heydorff, 1:25.5). On Friday, the Pirates took fifth in the 800 free relay (Hadden, Heydorff, Daniel Herrera, Shayan Shaikh, 7:04.41) and on Saturday, Coast finished sixth in the 400 free relay (Hadden, Simonti, Herrera, Heydorff, 3:10.82).
