PASADENA -- The Orange Coast College men's swim team took on some of the top teams in the state at the 2019 Pasadena Invitational and the Pirates posted a solid seventh-place team score of 208 points.

Diablo Valley won the men's side with 760 points, but the Pirates shined in several events throughout the three-day event.

Sophomore standout Kevin Chen notched a pair of wins for the Pirates. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Chen used a solid 30.63 split in the final 50 yards to win the event with a time of 58.07 seconds. Teammate Jace Hong notched a fifth-place time of 59.9 to give the Pirates solid points in that event.

In the 200 breaststroke, it was Chen, who again topped the field, touching the wall first with a time of 2:07.84.

Freshman diver Andrew Keidel performed well in both of his events, winning the 3-meter dive with 163.75 points before finishing third in the 1-meter dive with 159.05 points.

Hong earned another top-five finish for the Pirates, placing fourth in the 50 free with a time of 21.59, while in the 200 butterfly, freshman Angel Rosado picked up a solid fifth-place time of 2:04.87.

Keidel and the rest of the Pirate divers will take part at the Southern California Diving Regionals on Friday at El Camino College. For the rest of the Pirates, they will compete in the Orange Empire Conference Swim Championships, hosted by Saddleback College, April 18-20, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
