Pirate men take runner-up at OEC Invitational

RIVERSIDE -- With four first-place performances, the Orange Coast College men's track and field team placed second overall with 150 points at the Orange Empire Conference Invitational on Friday, hosted by Riverside City College.

In the javelin, Juki Ishida dominated the field by over 15 feet, placing first overall with a throw of 167-feet.

Joining Ishida atop the RCC podium during the meet was triple jumper Bradley Bryant, who topped the rest of the competition with a jump of 46-4 3/4.

A fellow Pirate winner for the meet came in the 400 meters, where Justin Lind took care of business with a winning time of 50.02 seconds.

It was a 1-2 finish in the 5,000, where OCC's Brian Soriano-Guzman and Justin Dominguez battled it out all the way to the finish line. In the end, Soriano-Guzman edged out his teammate with a winning time of 16:02.5, while Dominguez finished second with a solid time of 16:03.93.

Jumper/sprinter Isaiah Galloway earned a pair of two-three spots in the standings. He finished second overall in the 100 with a time of 11.14 seconds, after finishing third earlier in the day in the long jump with a mark of 21-8 1/4.

A pair of Pirates earned top-three jumps in the pole vault as the duo of Tommy Cook and Tyler Young each cleared 12-10 1/4.

In the 3,000 steeplechase, Ty Savely battled a tough field as well as a tough event and finished third overall with a time of 10:25.71.

OCC's multi-event athletes will travel back to RCC for the OEC Heptathlon/Decathlon on Wednesday, beginning at 10 a.m. The rest of the Pirates will compete again on Friday at Long Beach State, beginning at 10 a.m.
