Pirates take second at GWC Invitational

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The depth of the 2021 Orange Coast College men's cross country team showed on Friday at the Golden West Invitational as the Pirates earned a second-place team finish at Central Park.

With a pair of top-10 finishes, the Pirates took the No. 2 team spot with 66 points, just behind team winner Cuyamaca (62). Other top team scores include College of the Sequoias (81), Saddleback (119) and San Bernardino Valley (154).

The aforementioned OCC top-10 duo was led by Kade Franco, who took on the four-mile course and finished seventh overall out of 126 runners with a time of 21 minutes, 43.19 seconds. Close behind was Pirate teammate Hector Espana, who placed eighth with a 21:51.8.

Don Molina earned some quality points for the Pirates and finished 14th with a time of 22:09.19, with other point-earners coming from Cris Hernandez (18th, 22:13.72) and Erik Galindo (23rd, 22:27.17).

Other top OCC scores were turned in by Chett Clark (22:58.66), Vincent Luong-Kha (22:58.98), Connor O'Brien (23:03.32), Zack Lang (23:40.71), German Ramos (23:40.74), Danieo Rioquinto (23:53.81).

Coast will return to action on Friday at the San Diego Mesa Invitational, located at NTC Park at Liberty Station, beginning at 10 a.m.
