Coast claims Collins Cup ... again!

NEWPORT BEACH -- For the ninth straight season, the Orange Coast College women's crew can save a spot for the Collins Cup in its trophy case, thanks to another impressive performance against UC Irvine on Saturday at the Newport Harbor.

With another strong race by the Varsity 8 boat of Sophie Blair (coxswain), Tess Burney, Claireliece Kennedy, Maya Takeuchi, Elery Bermudez, Marissa Bonnefin, Kristen Klein, Abigail Daniels and Danielle Dubois, the Pirates blew away the Anteaters with a 2,000-meter time of 6 minutes, 38.9 seconds. UCI finished 17 seconds behind the Pirates with a time of 6:55.8.

It was more of the same for Coast in the Novice 8 race as the Pirates cruised to a winning time of 7:15.9, nearly 16 seconds better than UCI's time of 7:31.3.

Up next for the Pirates is a trip up to Sacramento for the WIRA Championships, which kick off on Friday, April 29 at 7 a.m.
