Pirates earn top times at ACRA championship

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- The Orange Coast College women's crew made the trek to Tennessee for the 2024 American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) Championships and the Pirates' two boats put forth a strong effort against the best four-year programs in the country.

For the Varsity 8, the Pirate crew (Tori Hink, Nagisa Kudo, Kendall Colbert, Jovana Hester, Logan Presho, Devin Morrison, Raquel Bennett, Savannah Sennott and coxswain Katarina Keller) earned a spot in the grand final race after earning a top-6 qualifying time. There, the Pirates finished fifth in the nation with a time of 7 minutes, 9.43 seconds. Vanderbuilt won the national title with a time of 6:56.21, followed VERY closely by Purdue (6:56.49), with Northwestern (7:01.63) finishing third.

For the Novice 4 squad, the foursome of Maysa Garcia, Megan Iida, Katherine Drechsler and Natalie Stehly (with coxswain Kaylee Beaumont), earned a spot in the "B" Final, where the Pirates finished third in the race and eighth in the nation with a time of 8:18.03, just behind race winner Michigan State (8;11.99) and runner-up Vanderbuilt (8:15.51).
