10 Questions With ... Lynette Romero -- Women's Soccer

Our next installment of "10 Questions With ..." features Orange Coast College women's soccer player, Lynette Romero.

  1. Do you remember when you first started playing soccer? What is it about the sport you love so much?

"Started to play as a little kid on some AYSO soccer teams. My dad used play soccer growing up and he always wanted me to play too. I remember when I was four years old when I started and my dad was training me. I immediately loved it."

  1. As a goal-scoring forward, how tough is it to try and score when the other team knows that is your main primary responsibility on the field? What's it like playing with the bullseye on your back??

"You just gotta stay positive and keep trying, even though it's hard to beat the defender. You have to learn what the team's defensive weak spots are and see how they're defending you. I keep trying new things and when the game is in the final minutes, it's really hard at the end, but you just have to push yourself."

  1. For those not too inclined with the sport, some might say the women's game isn't as rough or as violent at the men's game, but I've definitely seen some things out there. What's the worst thing you've had to deal with on a soccer field?

"I've definitely seen some things happen to my teammates out there, but the worst thing I've had happen to me is an ankle sprain. But I've been hit in the knees before and when there's a 50/50 ball and two players are going after possession, it definitely gets physical out there."

  1. Tell me about your off-season training program and what you've been doing this year with our current COVID situation?

"Being home more, I've been eating healthier and I'm making sure I'm drinking lots of water to stay hydrated. Out of the house, I've been doing lots of ball work and I'm always working on my shooting. I go on lots of runs … probably run 15-20 miles a week."

  1. What are your goals for this upcoming year? Any advice for the incoming freshman for this year's team?

"I want to be more of a goal-scorer and get more wins for our team. I would love our team to compete for a conference championship and win in the playoffs. My advice for our freshmen would be to just keep working hard on the field, both in practice and in matches. The coaches will see who works hard and who doesn't, so give it your all."

  1. If I gave you a 24-hour pass from COVID and you could do anything that you used to do, what would it be?? What do you miss the most from this isolation??

"I would love to travel with my family. I can't wait to do that again. I'd love to go Cancun."

  1. All kids like to eat … what are your favorite meals??
    1. Favorite food in general – "I love ceviche, especially shrimp ceviche."
    2. Favorite pre-game snack – "I usually don't eat much before a match because I'll feel heavier out there. Maybe a protein bar and lots of water or Gatorade."
    3. Favorite post-game meal – "Usually chicken of some kind. After games last year we always went to Chick-fil-A or Raising Canes."
  2. When you're not playing soccer, what do you enjoy doing?? Any hobbies or interests???

"I like to draw, listen to music and spend time with family and friends. As far as drawing, I enjoy drawing roses and flowers."

  1. What kind of coach has Kevin been to you?? What lessons has he taught you the most about soccer or just about life in general??

"Kevin is an amazing coach. He's always pushing his players to do their best. If he sees a player who is down or something is wrong, he always makes sure they're doing OK."

  1. What are some of your plans after OCC?? Perhaps a career beyond Soccer??

"My plan is to finish up OCC and transfer to Long Beach State. I'd like to continue to pursue my degree in kinesiology and eventually, I'd love to become an athletic trainer."
