Adams wins OEC, SoCal diving titles!
TORRANCE -- A pair of Orange Coast College women's diving standouts -- Rae Adams and Candace Buck -- qualified for the state championships after stellar performances at last weekend's Southern California Diving Championships, held at El Camino College.
Adams, who took third in the 3-meter diving event at last year's State Meet, won Orange Empire Conference and SoCal titles in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
The sophomore notched a score of 263.50 in the 3-meter competition and a 215 in the 1-meter -- topping the field in both events.
Teammate Candice Buck was right behind Adams in the 3-meter, taking second in OEC and SoCal with a 258.60. Buck also earned a spot at the State Meet in the 1-meter dive, thanks to a third-place score of 203.90.
The top eight competitors (along with two alternates) qualified for the upcoming state meet. Of those 10 divers in each event, four qualfied out of the always-tough Orange Empire Conference.
The 2014 California Community College Athletic Association's State Meet will take place on May 1-3 at East L.A. College.
