Pirates improve to 8-0 with win over Bobcats

MISSION VIEJO -- It was an impressive road win for the Orange Coast College women's tennis team as they improve to 8-0 overall with a 9-0 win over Saddleback College on Thursday in the Orange Empire Conference opener for both teams.

In doubles play, the Pirates rolled with convincing wins from the teams of Tori Varela/Olivia Sipiora (8-3), Rhea Gagnepain/Leanne Pascua (8-4) and Merrit Dubordieu/Kayla Cheng (8-3).

That strong play led to straight-set wins for the Pirates in all six singles matches, including wins from Varela (6-0, 6-3), Sipiora (6-0, 6-3), Gagnepain (6-2, 6-4), Dubordieu (6-1, 6-2), Pascua (6-1, 6-2) and Cheng (6-0, 6-4).

It's been a solid start to the season for the Pirates, who have won eight straight, including three straight by the score of 9-0.

Coast will look to keep the momentum going on Friday with a nonconference matchup at Antelope Valley College, beginning at 2 p.m. OCC's next home match will take place on Thursday against Riverside, also at 2 p.m.
