Pirates cruise to 16-1 win over Dons

COSTA MESA -- A pair of sophomore standouts -- Katelyn Hansen on offense and Lauren Babb on defense -- helped lead the Orange Coast College women's water polo team to a convincing 16-1 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Santa Ana College on Wednesday afternoon.

Hansen led the Pirates (4-1, 1-0 in OEC) with four goals, while Babb completely shut down the Dons' interior offense the entire match.

In all, 11 different OCC players scored against the Dons (0-3, 0-1). Babb and Harley Owens each had two goals, while solo tallies were turned in by Nathania Cuevas, Alexa Clayfield, Valerie Acosta, Kestlyn Hickey, Layla Jahanshahi, Sierra McQuivey, Andrea Sandoval and Fallan Mora.

The lone goal for the Dons came with just 3:03 left in the fourth period by Leslie Jimenez as the OCC defense clamped down the entire contest.

Pirate goalies Amy Jensen and Daniela Jimenez combined for nine saves.

Coast will return to action this weekend in the Mt. San Antonio Tournament, which kicks off on Friday. OCC's next home contest will be on Wednesday, Oct. 1 against Riverside, beginning at 4 p.m.
