Pirates struggle in Ventura

VENTURA -- The Orange Coast College football team fell to 0-3 for the season with a 51-10 nonconference loss to host Ventura College on Saturday night.

It was a long night at the office for the OCC Pirates as the VC Pirates (2-1) racked up 541 yards of total offense, while OCC's offense was held to 84 rushing yards, 295 total yards and three turnovers.

The quarterback combination of Pete Mitchell and Ayden Auer combined for 211 yards on 21-32 passing, including a touchdown strike from Auer to wide receiver James Rutledge, who led the way with three catches for 61 yards.

Nico Jackson was targeted throughout most of the night and was held to 41 yards on 14 carries.

For Ventura, the quarterback duo of Ricky Town and Jake Constantine combined for 290 yards and four touchdowns on 31-of-39 passing, while running back Thomas Duckett ran for 121 yards and a TD on 13 carries. VC wide receiver Kendric Mallor had 10 catches for 73 yards and a TD.

On defense, OCC was led by Kenny Carmichael's eight total tackles (three solo), followed by Shawn Snyder, Gasper Atencio and Dantavious Kelly, who each had six tackles.

The Pirates return home to Dick Tucker Field on Saturday against Santa Monica City College, beginning at 6 p.m.
