Five Pirates earn All-Southern League honors

COSTA MESA -- Five members of the Orange Coast College football team earned second-team, All-Northern Division, Southern League honors for their solid, all-around play this year, as voted on by the league's head coaches at their end-of-season meeting.

Three members of the Pirates' offense, including linemen Garrett Weichman and Hunter Hickok and running back Ahmad Lewis earned all-league honors, while on defense, linebackers Roman Ayala and Michael Archer earned spots on this year's honored squad.

Weichman (6'4, 300, sophomore) and Hickok (6'2, 290, sophomore) helped anchor an OCC offensive line that helped pave the way for Lewis (5-11, 195, freshman), who racked up 576 yards and five touchdowns for the Pirates in 2018. He capped off his solid campaign in the finale against Southwestern, where he rushed for 139 yards and three touchdowns on 21 carries.

Archer (6-0, 205, sophomore) led the Pirate defense in 2018 with 62 tackles and also notched 2.5 sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions.

Ayala (6-1, 220, sophomore) was close behind Archer in the Pirate defensive numbers, totaling 55 tackles, seven TFL and five pass breakups.
