Pirates push forward to 75-62 win over Santa Ana

SANTA ANA -- There is NO quit in the Orange Coast College men's basketball team and on Wednesday at Santa Ana College, the Pirates showed the fight with a 75-62 Orange Empire Conference win over the host Dons.

Isaac Padilla led all scorers with 22 points, four rebounds and four steals for the Pirates (12-15, 6-9 in the OEC), while Cody Aquino added 12 points and seven rebounds. Cade Dickey nearly notched a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds, while Josh Govett added nine points and five assists.

Court Franklin had 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Dons (11-16, 5-10), while Kaden Minter added 19 points and nine boards.

OCC fought hard down low against the Dons, picking up 23 second-chance points to just five for SAC.

The Pirates trailed early but grabbed their first lead midway through the first half at 19-18 on a Padilla layup.

But, a 15-4 run by the Pirates helped extend OCC's lead to double digits and from there, Coast held a 44-35 advantage at the half. Coast nailed nine 3-pointers on the night and that helped keep the Dons from making any comeback bids down the stretch.

The Pirates will wrap up the regular season at Santiago Canyon College on Friday, beginning at 6 p.m.
