Pirates catch Chargers atop OEC standings

MISSION VIEJO -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team heads into next week's Orange Empire Conference Finals atop the standings following the Pirates' solid performance on Monday at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club.

Coast notched a perfect 5-0 record after shooting a team score of 374, nine shots ahead of second-place Cypress. Saddleback (393) finished third, followed by Irvine Valley (395), Mt. San Antonio (398) and Riverside (399).

With the five wins, OCC moved into a first-place tie with Cypress in the OEC standings at 32-8, three wins ahead of Mt. SAC (29-11) with the two-round finals set for Monday, April 29 at Royal Vista Country Club, beginning at 7 a.m.

Bryce Sheridan led the entire conference field on Monday, shooting an even-par 72 to lead the Pirates, followed by Myoung Kim (73), Connor O'Hern 76, Mike Stephens (76), Tyler Thurmond (77) and Ian Gilbert (79).

O'Hern is currently second in the conference in scoring average at 72.3, just behind Cypress' David Marris (72.1), with Sheridan third at 73.9 and Kim at 74.
