Pirates finish second in OEC after solid two-round finale

WALNUT -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team came up just one win short in the overall Orange Empire Conference standings, but still performed well at the two-round OEC Championships at Royal Vista Golf Club on Monday.

Orange Coast had a 1-win advantage over Cypress and 2-win edge over Mt. SAC heading into the afternoon round.  Cypress would win the afternoon round, Mt. SAC would place second, and Orange Coast dropped to third.  That gave Cypress a 1-win victory over Orange Coast in the final standings and a 2-win victory over Mt. San Antonio.

In the morning round, Coast shot a team score of 365 and was led by sophomore Myoung Kim, who carded a brilliant 5-under-par 66, which tied the lowest round of any golfer in either round on Monday. Mike Stephens and Connor O'Hern each shot a 74, Tyler Thurmond came in with a 75 and Bryce Sheridan carded a 76.

The scored continued to drop across the board as the Pirates came in from the afternoon session with a team score of 359. Sheridan was OCC's top golfer of the afternoon with a 1-under 70, followed by Kim (71), Devin Keith (71), Stephens (73), O'Hern (74) and Thurmond (75).

OCC will join Cypress and Mt. SAC at the Southern California Regional Golf Championships, hosted by Los Serranos Country Club on Monday, beginning at 7 a.m.
