
Pirates finish second at hosted OEC event
COSTA MESA -- In one of the deepest, most talented seasons of men's golf in recent history, the Orange Coast College men's golf team is one of those pace-setters as the Pirates finished second overall at Wednesday's Orange Empire Conference matchup at Costa Mesa Country Club's Mesa Linda course.
The Pirates remained on top of the OEC standings after finishing with a team score of 360, just four shots off of the pace set by Cypress College's 356. College of the Desert was a close third at 362, followed by Victor Valley (371), Mt. San Antonio (372), Riverside (378), Mt. San Jacinto (380), Cuyamaca (394) and El Camino (402).
It is a three-team race top the standings with OCC in front with a 28-4 record, followed closely by Cypress (27-5) and Desert (27-5).
The Mesa Linda course at CMCC proved to be a shooting gallery for this elite group of golfers on Wednesday.
Matt Ingram scored the low round of the day (tied with Victor Valley's Cory Rose) with a 5-under-par 65 with all five OCC teammates within five shots of par, including Troy Tarvin (73), Victor Chaparro (73), Tyler Chapman (74), Nate Rhee (75) and Dallas Ryan (75).
The Pirates will return to action on Monday at Bear Valley Golf Club the next OEC event, hosted by Victor Valley College, beginning at 9 a.m.
