Pirates fare well at Coast-Guard Invitational

COSTA MESA -- Orange Coast College and Vanguard University co-hosted Friday's 2017 Coast-Guard Invitational and the Pirates posted some solid times and marks against both two- and four-year competition.

On the men's side, Coast finished second overall with 205 points, topped only by Vanguard's 282. Cuyamaca (126) finished third, while Arizona Christian University (26) placed fourth.

Coast picked up four victories against a tough field and was led individually by the a pair of strong races from Cody Epstein, who finished first in the 400 meters with a time of 50.23 seconds and followed that up with a solid second-place time of 23.02 in the 200.

Epstein joined the threesome of Colin Takushi, Erik Herrera and Carlos Perfetti and won the 1,600 relay with a time of 3:28.4.

Distance specialist Danny Dominguez dominated the field in the 3,000, crossing the finish line first with a time of 9:00.87, nearly 12 seconds faster than VU runner-up Zach Hunt's time of 9:12.28.

In the 400 hurdles, Alexander Morse cruised to victory with a time of 55.78.

The Pirates will next take to the track on Friday at the Cerritos Invitational, beginning at 9 a.m.
