Pirate tracksters roll past Fullerton, Santa Ana

SANTA ANA  -- The Orange Coast College men's and women's track and field teams won 26 of 36 events during Friday's Orange Empire Conference meet with Fullerton College and host Santa Ana College.

On the men's side, there were plenty of victories to go around for the Pirates. In the 400-meter relay, the foursome of David Dambre, Jeremiah Lewis, Jamal Gambrell and Austin Brown, edged out the Hornets (44.25) at the tape to win with a time of 44.14 seconds.

Danny Dominguez battled SAC's Paulino Sanchez in the 1,500 and won with a time of 4:46.83, just ahead of Sanchez's 4:47.12.

Lewis pulled off the win in the 400 with a time of 50.33, while in the 800, it was a 1-2-3-4 finish for the Pirates, led by Erik Herrera's first-place time of 2:06.44.

It was an OCC-only race in the 400 hurdles and Alixander Morse led the way with a sub-minute time of 56.77.

Another event, another win for Lewis in the 200 as he edged out Brown at the finish line and won with a time of 22.44.

Distance specialist Galyn Nash led another 1-2-3-4 OCC finish in the 3,000 with a time of 9:02.35, nine seconds ahead of Dominguez's solid time of 9:11.2.

In the 1,600 relay, the OCC quartet of Brown, Rey Parayno, Noel Sulbaran and Jalen Gill edged out the Hornets with a time of 3:31.65.

In the field events, Coast picked up a win in the javelin throw as Brendan Jordahl earned the top throw with a mark of 131-feet, 4-inches.

Triple jumper Tristan Manning cleared the field by nearly two feet with a winning jump of 40-4 1/4.

In the high jump, Bryan Boutilier was the lone participant to clear six feet and won with a mark of 6-3 1/4. 

Finally, in the pole vault, Sulbaran cleared 12-11 3/4 to take home the top spot.

The Pirates will travel to Cal State L.A. to compete in the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational on Friday, beginning at 9 a.m.
