Cayden Loth qualifies for state meet in decathlon for Pirates

MISSION VIEJO -- Orange Coast College track and field standout Cayden Loth, is the first Pirate to stamp his name on the invite list for the upcoming state meet after his solid performance at the Southern California Regionals Multi-Event Championships, hosted by Saddleback College.

Loth took on the best all-around track athletes in Southern California and finished third overall with a score of 6,083 points, trailing only Jeramiah Havens of San Diego Mesa (6,618) and Santa Barbara's Ryan Gregory (6,083).

With six top-five marks in the 10-event competition, Loth topped the entire field in the shot put with a winning throw of 41-feet, 7-inches. His throw was over a foot-farther than Havens' runner-up mark of 40-6. Loth's other top-five point totals came in the 100 (5th, 11.29), long jump (5th, 21-1 1/2), high jump (5th, 5-9 3/4), pole vault (5th, 10-11 3/4) and javelin throw (5th, 144-0). 

Two other Pirates earned spots at Wednesday's Regional Meet, with Gavin Meyer finishing in 10th place (5,339 points) and Alex Pacheco placing 14th (3,720). 

The CCCAA State Meet will take place on May 19-20 at Modesto Junior College.
